Lutron has revolutionized the design of Roman shades by introducing CERUS technology—Cord-Eliminating Roman Uptake System. This innovation allowsfor a safer Roman shade system by eliminating lifting cords typically associated with their construction. Eliminating cords from the traditional construction of Roman shades offers two major advantages over traditional styles. CERUS technology allows for a safer system by utilizing uptake bands that do not create pressure points as a strangulation hazard. CERUS also improves performance and reliability, offering smoother, more even travel of the shade and eliminating the
possibility of cords tangling.

Lutron is participating in a voluntary industry recall. Many shade styles have  been affected because  of exposed cords or loops that could cause entanglement. Click here to view an article from  the TODAY Show.

Lutron has responded  by creating CERUS™, a cordless uptake system for Roman shades.

BTX’s Versatile RF Plug & Play Drapery Automation

The Tumo XcelTM has earned recognition as one of the most user friendly systems in distribution to date! With its initial release in late 2008, this system hit the ground running. Becoming instantly accepted worldwide  for its ease of installation and worry-free operation, the Tumo Xcel can rightfully claim its place as a distinguished system. Although it utilizes a versatile DC-powered motor that’s completely plug and play out of the box, this system does not come up short in power.

Featuring an advanced headrail system, the Tumo Xcel can carry high-capacity loads but produces little more than a whisper level of sound. Unlike many DC-powered systems, the Tumo Xcel can be curved to specification, thus catering to bow or bay windows.

The Tumo Xcel also uses a convenient universal drive gear system. Not only can a single motor be installed as either a left or right mount without any need to disassemble the system, but it is also possible to install two motors to operate simultaneously in tandem, so as to double the maximum weight capacity. This allows for the Tumo Xcel to carry up to 120 lbs. of drapery fabric.

Applicable to both commercial or residential applications, the Tumo Xcel can do it all! Once installed, the Tumo Xcel can be operated by several control methods. Built-in RF technology offers wireless control with no expensive or cumbersome attachments. Low-voltage ports on the bottom of the motor allow for contact-closure operation, including switch and most network integrations. Last but not least is the user-friendly hand-draw function.  Utilizing cleverly designed electromagnetic disconnects, the Tumo Xcel can be operated easily by hand without damaging the hardware or internal control devices. This makes the Tumo Xcel exceptionally valuable in commercial or hospitality environments where new users frequently come in contact with a system but may not know it’s motorized or even how to operate it. This may also come in extremely handy to protect the system’s operation in residential environments where playful children may be involved.

Asian Art Museum of San Francisco Installation

One job we’re particularly proud of is an installation at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. The aim was to provide a double layer of treatments to provide blackout shading for multimedia presentations in the museum’s ornate Samsung Hall. The picture below shows the resulting effectiveness of this roller shade system. Decorative roman shades were later installed to finish the look.

The shades pictured are 180″ x 180″ with a fixed 180″ x 96″ arch above, and are the Silent Gliss 4840 roller system which are ideal for situations where you need very large window coverings but can’t get power to motorized shades.

With widths as large as 200″ and a height of up to 240″, these rollershades can be operated with ease, thanks to the patented planetary gear reduction system.
